Choosing The Right Sports Bra

Choosing the right sports bra should be taken seriously for everyone! No matter what level impact you will be using it for, this task should not be taken lightly. Wearing the right sports bra will not only make your activity easier and more fulfilling, it can save your body from injury and prevent damage to be done to your breasts.

First off, analyze the exercise you will be needing the bra for. A large part of your decision depends upon the level of impact you will be performing. Weight training, walking and yoga are examples of lower impact action, where as running, aerobics and mountain biking are high impact.

Next, find a store where you can get measured so that you are positive what your bra size is and ideally has a selection of sports bras for all sizes. Bertha Church and smaller boutiques are great for this! If you do not have a professional helping you, here are some things to be on the lookout for when trying them on.
  1. Your breasts should be level and all of your breast tissue should be held securely within the cups.
  2. The fabric should be wrinkle free. Puckering indicates that the bra is too big.
  3. The band should be more snug than your everyday bras, but should not dig into your body and leave marks on your skin. The band should also stay in place. If it rides up, the band is too loose.
  4. Lastly, the straps should allow minimal breast movement and should not move around on your shoulders. Consider choosing a sports bra with adjustable straps so you can get the exact fit you desire.
Why is a precisely fitting sports bra a must?
If your sports bra is too big, it will fail to provide you with the adequate amount of support. When your breasts are not supported, the movement and bouncing around can cause internal bleeding and soreness. If your sports bra is too small, you run the risk of damaging your back and other body parts.

Your breasts are made up of connective tissue, fat, nerves, blood vessels and the lymphatic system. The ligaments in your chest hold up your breasts giving them their size and shape. When they are stretched, they do not go back to their original position. This right here is the cause of saggy breasts. Keeping those breasts in place by purchasing a good quality, well fitted athletic bra is a MUST in order to prolong the life of your young lady shape!
